SUPER INSULATED LOW ENERGY HOUSE: Going Green now for the future
Located on wooded two acres adjacent to a public bike trail and existing neighborhood, this new home for a couple and their four adopted children needed to be spacious yet efficient. The owners desired to make a home as energy efficient as possible.
The plan was made as compact as possible. Major views to the north made it more difficult to achieve optimum energy efficiency. South windows allowed some passive gain in the winter, but the design had to rely on a double insulted exterior wall to obtain maximum insulating values. The overall construction of the home resulted in estimated heating costs of less than 400 dollars for the entire year.
