OBERLIN COLLEGE STUDENT HOUSING -CARLISLE TOWNSHIP, OHIO:
This design for new student housing attempts to go beyond the typical dormitory style architecture and planning. The site is bordered by an established residential neighborhood and includes eleven new, historically-influenced “houses” (each with 3 apartment units) that pay tribute to the vernacular architecture of Oberlin and reflect the existing character and scale of the area.
The placement of the individual houses (each containing three apartments) along an established vehicular street and an internal access pathway, create a dynamic and interactive pedestrian environment. The complex as a whole creates a new village block that weaves the campus into the adjacent residential neighborhood.
